Abstract :
The up-wind finite element solution is applied to the calculation of a magnetic field problem including moving parts. This method is useful for several problems, such as linear induction motors or linear actuators. The basic scheme is reviewed by using a 1-D model. A simple inductor model constructed from a DC magnet and moving conductor plate is used to validate this method. As a practical application, 2-D computation results for a linear induction motor are described. It is concluded that the proposed method can be used practically, due to its accuracy and cost effectiveness
