Abstract
The basic principle of MOD (magneto-optical disc) recording is outlined, and it is shown that the MOD and the MOD recorder can be made much more versatile than something that could merely be called an erasable CD. Specifically, it is demonstrated how audio signals with a resolution up to 20 bits can be recorded without changing the basic signal format given by the standard 16-bit mode, and how a recording and playing time of more than four hours can be reached without sacrificing audio quality
