Abstract :
The paper deals chiefly with the manufacture of basic steel. The various processes are described in detail, commencing with the manufacture of coke and the operation of blast furnaces. The basic open hearth method of steel manufacture incorporating both hot and cold metal practices are then described. Reference is made to the manufacture of ¿free cutting¿ steel.
