Abstract :
The author describes a new monochip for teletext and on-screen display application, including a data slicer, a line-locked PLL (phase-locked loop), and a RAM for 4-page application. Up to 128 K of external DRAM can be added if more pages are needed. This chip includes some unique features to deal with level 2 and 3 teletext. The chip can also be used with extended memory and powerful software for high-end TV sets, with high quality test and graphics display. Its powerful display functions are the key features that make it possible to personalize a TV or VCR. The classic tradeoff of performance versus cost is not shifted to the software
