Abstract :
A US agenda for high-definition television (HDTV) is formulated. Attention is given to the FCC´s agenda and to myths concerning HDTV. The wealth of bad information on the subject of HDTV really starts with the so-called experts, those who are trying to create an American Agenda out of HDTV. Two recent examples of such `expert´ misinformation are: the General Accounting Office´s HDTV report to Congressman Edward Markey´s House Telecommunications and Finance Subcommittee (dated March 1990, but released publicly in late April), and an extensive Booz Allen Hamilton study, commissioned by the American Electronics Association´s HD Systems Task Force, a study also released in April. The author refers to these reports as he tries to clear up many of the misconceptions about HDTV´s American Agenda, by addressing some of the HDTV myths and gives his views of the realities
