Abstract :
The author discusses the beginnings of the synchronous machine at the end of the 19th century. In particular the author discusses the first long-distance transmission of high voltage three phase power using a machine with a power output of 210 kW at the International Exposition at Frankfurt in 1891. This machine is described in detail. Milestone in the development of the synchronous machine and hydroelectric generators are discussed
