Abstract
What is a supervisor´s task in helping a new employee reach a more comfortable state in order to be productive? What must a supervisor do when dealing with new employees who are capable, ambitious, and success driven but are on a learning curve? How does a supervisor express sensitivity and empathy to aid the new employee´s adjustment to the department and company? Besides knowing her job, a new employee has to figure out the company culture. In other words, what are the unspoken rules of the company as well as the written ones? What does the culture demand of a new employee in terms of contributing fresh viewpoints and offering opinions? This paper discusses these issues.
