Abstract
This paper describes two techniques for the location of high polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) sections of installed system fiber. The first technique uses the recovery of local linear birefringence by polarization backscatter reflectometry, whereas the second uses the wavelength dependence of the backscattered signal to determine the spatial distribution of the PMD
