A System for Transmitting Electronic Photographs

Because transmitting conventional photographs over telephone lines requires a complex receiving unit capable of photo-chemical processing, photographic transmission has never enjoyed wide use. However, with the development of electronic photography, in which an image is transformed into electric signals by a solid-state image sensor such as a charge-coupled device and recorded on a magnetic disc, much broader applications seem possible.
