Abstract
The impact of the falling numbers of students reading engineering in spite of the growth of higher education overall and the need for more professional engineers has led the IEE to take a fresh look at its role in relation to schools. A high-level Schools Task Group has reported and the IEE´s Schools Education and Liaison Services have determined a set of priorities to enhance their activities. The current dramatic changes in higher education, which are outlined by the author, make these new plans even more imperative
