Abstract
It is shown that the coefficients of a discrete time-optimal controller for a system with unknown dynamics may be derived directly from input and output measurements, by the application of a least squares identification procedure, without the previous necessity of first identifying the process dynamics. A simulation study illustrates the application to a fourth-order multivariable system having inaccessible states.
