Abstract
A design methodology for optimizing optoelectronic functional devices is described. The introduction of cost function for electrical and optical device characteristics enables automatic optimization by simulated annealing. The optimum design of AlGaAs/GaAs pnpn differential optical switches in consideration of light emission efficiency, light sensitivity, and switching voltage is successfully demonstrated.<>
