Abstract
This paper describes the design and implementation of an electronic nameplate (NP). The electronic nameplate is a storage device which may be attached physically to a system or a component for the purpose of storing information relevant to its identification, installation procedure, calibration, fault diagnosis, and operational history. The NP can be implemented as a single chip solid-state controller with nonvolatile read/ write memory. The NP has a standard connector through which it receives power and communicates with an external central processing unit (CPU).
