Abstract
A functional relationship that gives a measure of the relative stability of a time-varying system is referred to as stability supervision. It is shown that the onset of instability in a normally stable loop can be detected, and the resulting stability function can be used to adapt a control parameter to maintain stability over the total operating range. This method is applied to the model of an industrial drive system and its effectiveness is assessed.
