  • Abstract
The steady-state performance of two prototype polyphase reluctance motors, grooved and segmental types, under combined fundamental and third-harmonic excitation was studied by using injected third-harmonic magnetomotive force (MMF) to interact with the third space harmonic flux produced by the fundamental MMF through the rotors to produce additional torque. The mutual coupling effects between fundamental and third-harmonic excitations were identified. The mathematical models and phasor diagrams which are needed to calculate the steady-state output torques for grooved and segmental-type reluctance motors under combined fundamental and third-harmonic excitation and developed and presented
