Abstract :
Recent demands for very high current, short pulse operation of electron linacs has necessitated design changes to achieve this mode of operation with acceptable results. An analysis of transient operation is presented including energy spectrum, joules/pulse stability, limitations and electron-optical requirements. Some experimental results achieved are described.
