Abstract :
This work numerically investigates the particle trajectory in a turbulent flow field and the trapping status of particles in 2.5 in thin hard disk drives (HDD). The trajectories of particles are calculated and visualized. The particle trapping status is studied by statistical analysis of massive particle behaviors. The locations of air filters are compared and evaluated. The effects of particle release position, particle size and density on the trapped status are examined and the conclusions are provided. These results provide useful information and can be used as a guideline in the design of a particle removal system inside thin HDDs.
