Abstract :
An introduction to the Guide for the Protection of Shunt Reactors (ANSI/IEEE C37.109-198X) is presented. The material contained in the Guide is briefly described and some examples are presented. Reactor construction and characteristics are described along with dry-type reactor connections. Dry-type reactor failure modes, types of faults, and relaying practices are outlined. Oil-immersed rector connections, failure nodes, and types of faults encountered are discussed
