  • Abstract
A new method is described for distribution system harmonic design. It is based on the application of the eigenvalue sensitivity technique to the system poles and zeros. The harmonic voltage performance of a distribution system depends on the location of its poles and zeros with respect to the harmonic frequencies. The knowledge of the poles, the zeros and their respective sensitivities to system parameters enables the designer to identify changes in the system which will reduce harmonic voltage levels. These system changes are readily apparent using the proposed method, resulting in less computational effort and reduced engineering time. This approach often results in small changes in the capacitor bank locations, in which case the 60 Hz performance is not substantially changed
