Abstract
A patch antenna supported by a dielectric resonator is studied. This small antenna possesses the advantages offered by the folded patch antenna and the dielectric resonator antenna. Unlike most traditional small antennas, the proposed design has a relatively low cross-polarization, less than -20 dB. By using a dielectric material with εr=10, the length of the antenna is about 15 percent of a free-space wavelength. The antenna is resonant at the center frequency of 1.265 GHz with an impedance bandwidth of ∼2.2% (10-dB bandwidth). It offers a maximum gain of 3 dBi and the measured radiation patterns are stable across the operating frequency range. Both simulation and measurement results are presented and compared.
