Abstract :
Coreless transformers are used in several applications, operating in a large range of frequencies. Their equivalent circuit model is very important to allow the proper design of any electronic circuit or load that may be electrically coupled to them. Especially, in cases where the coils of these devices are modeled with a relatively large wire gauge (when compared with the skin depth), the losses due to eddy currents must be included, otherwise their circuit simulation will be incorrect. This paper proposes a method that allows modeling the lumped parameters of coreless transformers, including the eddy currents. The method uses an optimization algorithm search through a genetic algorithm solver. Although the scope of this paper lies within coreless transformers, the whole method was designed in a generic way to model different types of electric equipment.
