Abstract
The wire explosion process in water was observed by using a high-speed camera. The images showed well-defined boundaries between high-temperature bright core and dark shell. The shell lasted for several milliseconds, whereas its surface cooled down due to mixing with water. This stage of wire explosion was followed by the transformation of spherical shell to toroidal shape due to the hydrodynamic flow of water.
