Abstract
A fiber-optic magnetic gradiometer has been configured to successfully detect the human cardiac magnetic signal. The sensor detects the spatial gradient of the component of the cardiac magnetic field in the head-to-toe direction differentiated with respect to the same coordinate. The sensor is configured as a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, and detects the cardiac magnetic signal in real time. This is the first detection of biomagnetic signal by an optical means.<>
