Abstract :
A two-dimensional charge position readout has been developed for X-ray imaging on HEAO-B. The system consists of two microchannel plates forming a "chevron", a crossed-wire grid, thirty-four preamplifiers, and bias and processing circuits. The article describes the system and discusses design considerations in view of the performance limitations of critical parts.
