Abstract :
To provide an effective control room man-machine interface, the author presents a human factors analysis on digital display systems for nuclear safety and nonsafety-related systems. The digital instrumentation, would replace existing conventional analog monitoring systems. A control room survey on several nuclear power plants observed a number of human engineering discrepancies still prevalent on visual displays. Human factors analysis is outlined for the displays, emphasizing consistency in the design and layout of the display, as well as identifying display features to optimize human information processing of the displays. Current industry-based digital-bargraph visual displays are considered with human factors enhancements
