Abstract
The design of an Advanced Control Room (ACR) is viewed as problem-solving in which both the design process and the hardware designs are reviewed. The methods of IEEE-STD-566,"Recommended Practice for Design of Display and Control Facilities for Central Control Rooms of Nuclear Power Generating Stations," as used for the design of a prototype ACR, are described. The operator is provided versatile, computer-driven CRT displays and pushbutton operator interface modules for control functions. The modular design has flexibility for accommodating hardware changes. Interactive graphics provide the operator with a systematic organization of information adaptable for specific plant operating modes.
