Abstract :
The study of frieze patterns is traditionally associated with group theory, a branch of abstract mathematics. In fact, frieze and wallpaper patterns appear almost universally in books on group theory because they are perfect illustrations of those ideas. Because the pattern is algorithmic, one can synthesize it and generate texture (such as when scan converting) or analyze it to find the texture coordinates (such as when ray tracing). The author takes a very informal and visual approach to the subject
