Abstract
The factors associated with inter-R&D laboratory differences in output from the R&D processes are investigated with emphasis on the influence of federal R&D on the composition of this output. An attempt is made to describe the various categories of innovative output characterizing industrial R&D and to investigate factors affecting the distribution of these activities among industrial R&D laboratories. It is shown that federal R&D allocations significantly redirect a laboratory´s output, skewing it toward activities with public-good characteristics.<>
