Abstract :
After surveying the manufacturing route and inspection procedures used to meet the stringent quality demands from users of wrought non-ferrous products, the Authors highlight in some detail how problems concerning variation in composition of base material, variations in mechanical properties due to processing, variations in dimensions due to tool wear, internal soundness and surface quality have been met and overcome. The Authors comment that, because of their experience being mainly in the field of strip, sheet, rod and wire, these products only are dealt with. Other products such as tube and forgings are not included. Naturally their remarks are coloured by the practices in their own Company, but they do not feel these are widely different from practices in other firms in the U.K.
