Abstract
This paper constructs and analyzes certain unit-train models of a mixed lumped-distributed parameter character. These models allow construction of a filtering model for unit-train control in which grade forces and countervailing locomotive forces are treated as disturbances, while center of mass velocity control is decoupled from a stress control loop. The results are illustrated with a representative calculation.
