Abstract
This paper discusses factors which should be considered in developing standard sizes for metallic electrical conductors to be used in insulated wires and cables. Standards for solid and stranded conductors in both the United States and International systems are analyzed and compared. In response to a growing interest in the forthcoming metrication of the U.S., guidelines for a rational and distinctive approach to standardizing metric-dimensioned conductors are offered.
