Abstract
Since their introduction in 1958, [1] guyed-V transmission structures have found acceptance in many parts of the world for long distance transmission lines passing through relatively undeveloped terrain. The guyed-V tower can give at least equivalent performance for less cost than rigid latticed towers when conditions are favourable and application techniques are sound. It is suggested that the maximum benefits of the guyed-V towers have not been realized as too many design and use practices have been carried over from rigid tower methods. The complete guyed-V structure should be thought of as a combination of major elements or modules. Such a modular approach can produce significant line cost reductions.
