Abstract :
A 275 kV internally-water-cooled XLPE power cable with a stainless steel coolant tube and a wire shield was developed that greatly reduced the consumption of ion exchange resins and the sheath eddy current loss, respectively. A 230 m cable system which included the cable, cable accessories and cooling facilities was constructed, and a field test was carried out over a two year period. The long-term stability and reliability of the cable system were confirmed by the field test and a subsequent residual performance test. The practicality of the cable system was further ensured by developing novel methods of system recovery from faults
