Abstract :
Three variations of the cavity model for determining the resonant frequencies of a rectangular microstrip antenna are compared. The results for each of the variations were experimentally verified by studying a set of patched antennas fed to excite different modes. The method´s applicability to electrically thick rectangular microstrip antennas was also investigated. It is also shown that the uncertainties of the patches´ dimensions and substrate properties can greatly affect the final result
