Abstract :
[Fe-Co/Si]n multilayers prepared using amorphous Si interlayers were investigated as soft magnetic underlayers for perpendicular magnetic recording media with large saturation magnetization 4πMs. The addition of B into Fe-Co layers was examined to control the magnetic anisotropy field Hk. The Si interlayers suppressed stripe domain configuration which causes media noise in [Fe-Co/Si]n multilayers. The addition of B and the application of an external dc-field during the deposition of [Fe-Co-B/Si]n effectively induced a large Hk in the multilayers.
