Abstract
The switching field of perpendicular recording media has been studied with micromagnetic simulations. The dependence of the switching field on the head field rise time is investigated. It has been found that the short head field rise time coupled with small damping constant leads to a significant reduction of the switching field. The switching field also decreases with increasing in-plane head field.
