Abstract :
Imbedding a deterministic optimal control problem in a feedback structure is a good compromise of computational feasibility versus control quality for network flow processes characterized by nonlinear behavior, capacity constraints, and predictable load inputs. Application to a real-life sewer network control problem is shown to provide satisfactory results in spite of considerable load prediction inaccuracy. Particular items concerning the impact of the optimization horizon length and of the prediction quality on control results are discussed on the basis of the application example
