  • Abstract
The author presents a quasiparticle approach to wave propagation in overmoded media. Both transient and time harmonic forward scattering problems are treated where the classical quasiparticle theory is described, along with correction terms that account for diffractive interference effects. The author reviews a wave description of typical propagation problems and describes a specific computational method of solution. Wave and kinetic equations descriptive of these problems are introduced, wherein specific numerical methods of solution in the parameter range h→0 and h≠0 are given for both time-dependent and time-independent descriptions. The author sketches some conceptual features of the h→0 approximation, i.e. the quasiparticle picture. The abstract basis for the mathematical techniques used in obtaining specific matrix and transform representations of operator solutions for both the wave and kinetic equations is reviewed
