Abstract
The effect of random current and voltage harmonics combined with random loads on the value of the optimum capacitor for power factor correction is analyzed. Special attention is given to the standard deviation of the energy loss in the feeder. It is proved that static VAr compensators are one of the most effective means for reduction of the energy losses in transmission and distribution lines
