Abstract :
Computer-aided design, analysis, and simulation techniques for communication networks are surveyed. The focus is on analytic and simulation techniques that are either amendable to, or require, implementation on a computer. Issues relating to the implementation of these techniques on a computer as well as their embodiment in software tools are addressed. Past and present work in these areas is surveyed, the application of these techniques to network performance modeling and analysis is discussed, and promising directions for future research are indicated
