Abstract :
Mercuric iodide crystals grown from a solution of molecular complexes with dimethylsulfoxide have been evaluated as ¿-ray and X-ray room temperature detectors. Compared with materials grown from the vapor phase the crystals are characterized by a larger size, a lower level of native defects but a higher impurity level. Detector technology, X-ray and ¿-ray detection properties and characterization measurements are described. It is also shown that charge transport properties are considerably changed by illuminating samples which are simultaneously biased.
