Abstract
Hard magnetic Nd-Fe-B and Sm-Co films have been deposited on various substrates with a Cr buffer layer. The morphology of the buffer was modified from a smooth to a rough, meander-like structure. Films deposited on the rough buffers exhibit a significantly higher coercivity. The feasibility of Cr as a diffusion barrier and as an intermediate layer to induce magnetic texture in these systems is discussed.
