Abstract
The metal casting industry is composed of many different parts and it is considered desirable for the purposes of this paper to restrict the study to the largest of these, namely those foundries which work with iron and steel. Within this scope, the paper examines the current state of the industry and assesses the probable development of its market. From this assessment it identifies the changes necessary within the industry and shows in some detail the ways in which such changes may be accomplished both now and in the future. The operating cost aspects of these developments are evaluated and the overall effect on profitability assessed.
