Abstract
A minimum time-resolution expression is considered for leading-edge timing in which the rise time T1 of SER and its decay time T2 are inserted. Correlation with the parameters involved in other theories indicates the scintillator contribution to T1, which is shown to be the rms time jitter of the photomultiplier at small thickness of scintillator divided by 1.58. Also, T2 is directly proportional to the cubic root of the scintillator volume and its least value is equal to the decay constant of the small plastic scintillator For constant fraction timing the ratio Wl.e/Wc.f = 3¿ is analytically found.
