Abstract
A photoionization detector is described with a high quantum efficiency at wavelengths shorter than about 2000 Ã
. This instrument, coupled to a xenon gas scintillation proportional counter has an energy resolution of 9.5% FWHM at 6 keV. The vapor pressure and absorption coefficient of TMAE are measured and the prospects of an imaging gas scintillation proportional counter are discussed.
