Abstract
This paper derives a unified representation of the Cramer-Rao lower bounds (CRLBs) for semi-blind maximum-likelihood (ML) channel estimation in time-hopping (TH) ultra-wideband systems with pulse amplitude and position modulation, pulse amplitude modulation and pulse position modulation (PPM). These bounds subsume the existing results for both pilot-based and blind ML channel estimation in TH-PPM as special cases. A numerical example is used to illustrate the effects of different data modulation formats and system parameters on the CRLBs derived
