Abstract :
The findings of other investigators of transformer and distribution system response to lightning strokes are briefly reviewed and discussed. Digital studies performed to evaluate the effects of system and transformer parameters on service entrance phase-to-neutral voltage and on transformer currents due to lightning strokes are discussed. The effects of pertinent parameters are illustrated with curves. The results of full-scale tests confirming the digital simulations are presented. Based on this analysis, an approach for evaluating the impact of various low-voltage winding configurations on lightning-induced failures in distribution transformers is proposed
