Abstract :
A method to reduce the electric field using grids of parallel wires under transmission lines is described. The "shielding efficiency" of the grids is defined. Simplified dimensionless curves are presented relating shield grid wires, shielding efficiency, wire radius, wire height, and wiring spacing. An approximate formula is presented for edge effect performance. The approximate formulae agree with exact solutions and test data.
