Abstract :
Dynamic thermal rating by adaptive forecasting (DTR-AF) is introduced for more effective utilization of overhead transmission line capability. DTR-AF is proposed for economic energy transfers, wheeling of power, accommodation of cogeneration, and outage conditions. A formulation of the optimal conduction operating temperature is provided, followed by a discussion of the various parameters that influence the selection of the economic conductor temperature. DTR-AF is proposed as an inexpensive alternative to reconductoring or new line construction. A specific case study showing the economy of using DTR-AF is presented
