Abstract :
The transient stability problem has grown to enormous size due to the large number of interconnections of power systems. As the problem size has grown, so has the computational effort required for solution. This paper investigates the large scale parallelism available in the problem because of the sparsity of the equations and the algorithms used for solution. Multiprocessors are proposed to exploit this parallelism, and the gains achievable by these multiprocessors are predicted.
